What people are saying about BCM
“Berkeley Community Media is so important to protect, to shore up, for young and old to make their own media.”
Amy Goodman, Host of “Democracy Now”

"With a professional lighting rack, vast shooting space, screen and digital projector and a great staff BCM has been a terrific resource for Vista video classes and productions. Our connection with BCM also enables students to televise their work and do internships at the station. Finally, Vista students are phenomenally diverse and our relationship with BCM helps us bring traditionally underrepresented voices into the media."
Rachel Mercy Simpson, Vista Community College Instructor

“BCM helps nonprofit organizations educate the community about our work through the creation and airing of video PSAs and promotional films. Without BCM equipment, studios, and expert assistance, nonprofits would have to take money away from services to pay for market-rate PR services. Telling their personal stories on video is therapeutic and empowering for many of our homeless clients, who often feel invisible in the community.”
Boona Cheema, Executive Director, Building Opportunities for Self-Sufficiency (BOSS)

“What I like most about BCM is the commitment to keep access television alive. The staff is always there to help you when you have a need. They take the time to make sure that you are comfortable with your project, while encouraging you to become a part of the BCM family.”
— Brenetta Fisher, Producer, “Education is the Best Medicine”

Where does Berkeley Community Media get its funding?
BCM is an independent 501© 3 non profit organization funded mostly by the City of Berkeley who in turn receive franchise fees from Comcast for use of public rights of way.
BCM covers all City Council, Rent Stabilization Board meetings and Zoning Adjustment Board meetings. Additionally, BCM is contracted by the Berkeley Unified School District to produce and cablecast meetings held in the council chambers of old city hall.
A small portion of our budget comes from membership dues, workshops, donations, and media services revenue.
